We are proud to say that on this past Easter weekend Gifty's husband, Wayne Dunn, made the trip to Tapko to deliver the school supplies that we held a fundraiser for over Christmas. Wayne spends time in Ghana for business reasons and took time out of his busy schedule to make the 700 kilometer trip to Tapko to present the supplies himself. This trip takes roughly 10 to 15 hours of driving time depending on road conitions. (see picture below)
Wayne arrived in Tapko during the Willa Festival which is celebrated every April to honor the ancestral shrine "Will" and give thanks for guidance and protection.
Wayne's comments... " It was quite an event and an honour to be able to present the supplies. As you can see, there were about 1,000 people present, including most Chiefs from the area and a few Cabinet Ministers and other dignitaries. The Tapko Chief was so touched by the donation that they presented me with a hand-made, traditional smock as part of the festivities."
We want to thank all of our valued customers for their support as well as the Staples store in Duncan, BC who gave us an additional 15% discount on top of all the sales discounts that were already happening in the store. As well we would like to thank our non-profit partner in Canada, Partners For Prosperity who accepted many donations and arranged for the money to go to Ghana. Please know that all your donations are greatly appreciated and that 100% of what you donated went directly to the children of Tapko.
