Centre for Prosperity and Autonomy (Lesotho)
Centre for Prosperity and Autonomy was created to assist in providing a better life for rural communities in Lesotho. It also has as mission support and training of youth and orphans and particularly in their income generating and artistic endeavours. Its first activity is the initiation of the Leaf Extract project which seeks to develop local income generating activities including tree planting, organic vegetable production, extraction of vegetable leaves to produce a protein vitamin rich supplement for underweight babies and people living with AIDS. To date our collaboration with local nutritionists and community chiefs, has provided us with the lists of many children 3 months to 5 years in need of the supplement in at least three communities where women are prepared to work together to pick indigenous vegetables, grow the 'exotic' vegetables and organize the distribution of the supplement to the children. Potential partners include the Network of People living with AIDS, Rural Self Help Development, SOS Children's Village outreach programme, GROW (a community project to promote healthy agriculture), the Food and Nutrition Co-ordinating Office. more

Providence Farm (Canada)
Providence Farm is a therapeutic community where Horticultural Therapy and Vocational Rehabilitation are used as tools to provide programs for people with barriers to education and employment. The Sisters of St. Ann own the beautiful 400 acre property that lies at the base of Mount Tzouhalem, in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. The Vancouver Island Providence Community Association has leased the farm and has developed innovative programs for the community since 1979. Today there are 14 full and part time staff and over 120 participants that come up our driveway each week. The success of our programs is based on the premise that caring for the land together is healing and therapeutic by nature.
?The ultimate goal of farming is not the cultivation of crops, but the growth and development of people? more

Schumacher College (United Kingdom)
Schumacher College was founded in 1991 upon the twin convictions that the world view which has dominated Western civilization has serious limitations, and that a new vision is needed for human society, its values and its relationship to the earth. Through interdisciplinary studies, the College aims to explore the foundations of that new vision. At the College, a unified residential education involving physical work, meditation, aesthetic experience and intellectual inquiry creates a sense of the wholeness of life. Schumacher College offers rigorous enquiry to uncover the roots of the prevailing worldview; it explores ecological approaches which value holistic rather than reductionism perspectives and spiritual rather than consumerist values. It also offers a learning experience that is consistent with a holistic philosophy. At Schumacher, people find refreshment, and often new direction. They find they have touched a source of inspiration and are reminded that others share their deepest values about life and its meaning. more
