| Partnership for Pichon (Haiti) |
Pichon is a village in southeast Haiti, isolated by
rugged mountains and rugged roads. The Partnership
began in August 1999 when Michigan (USA) visitors
asked villagers how they could assist with development
there. Pichon's needs are many, but the request was to
start a school. By June 2003 there were 165 students,
6 locally recruited and trained teachers, and an active
Parent Committee. Economic development efforts are
now being started to support the area through micro-
credit and community banking programs. A non-profit
organization in Port-au-Prince links North American
and Pichon resources in a spirit of partnership. North
American partners visit Pichon several times each year
to maintain a personal sense of connection between
the two communities. more

| Vancouver Foundation (Canada) |
The Vancouver Foundation is one of the oldest community foundations in North America. Vancouver Foundation was formally established by an Act of the Provincial Legislature - the Vancouver Foundation Act - in 1950. It has grown to become the largest community fund in Canada and the fifth largest in North America. In 2000, Vancouver Foundation is the custodian of 689 funds, which make up its Consolidated Trust Fund with a market value in excess of $610 million. Each year, they distribute approximately $27 million, representing a portion of the income generated from these investments, to organizations and groups that support the Foundation's mandate. Today, Vancouver Foundation seeks to achieve three principal goals:
Promote the growth of income from contributed funds to achieve donors' charitable objectives.
Encourage and support those charitable organizations best able to carry out activities congruent with the purposes for which the Foundation was established.
Provide philanthropic leadership and support endeavors that improve the quality of life in the community. more
