| Centre for Prosperity and Autonomy (Lesotho) |
Centre for Prosperity and Autonomy was created to assist in providing a better life for rural communities in Lesotho. It also has as mission support and training of youth and orphans and particularly in their income generating and artistic endeavours. Its first activity is the initiation of the Leaf Extract project which seeks to develop local income generating activities including tree planting, organic vegetable production, extraction of vegetable leaves to produce a protein vitamin rich supplement for underweight babies and people living with AIDS. To date our collaboration with local nutritionists and community chiefs, has provided us with the lists of many children 3 months to 5 years in need of the supplement in at least three communities where women are prepared to work together to pick indigenous vegetables, grow the 'exotic' vegetables and organize the distribution of the supplement to the children. Potential partners include the Network of People living with AIDS, Rural Self Help Development, SOS Children's Village outreach programme, GROW (a community project to promote healthy agriculture), the Food and Nutrition Co-ordinating Office. more
