I am a 24 year old male currently living in Vancouver looking for volunteer opportunities in the province. I have an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto and just recently completed a Masters of Development Studies at the University of Sydney.

While in Sydney I worked as an intern for Amnesty International for six months. My role was to assist asylum seekers in thier application for refugee status. This required frenquent communication with the asylum seekers themselves (often via an interpreteur), their lawyers, the immigration department, and a variety of social services organizations such as the Red Cross.

I have traveled to parts of Africa and South East Asia as a tourist and as a student, both experiences providing a strong desire to work and interact with a variety of different cultures. I am hoping through volunteer work to expand my experience and understanding of community development programs while making a positive difference in communities.

Africa Youth for Peace and Development otherwise (AYPAD) is a registered nongovernmental, non political, non religious bias organization with the government of Sierra Leone and operating in 30 countries with a multi-faced mission and vision of ensuring peace and development among youth around the world. The main thrust of the organization is to promote peace and development among young people around the world, by engaging in development projects, conferences, workshop, training, thereby creating a culture of peace, nonviolence and positively transform the lives of young people in difficult circumstances. With Head quarter in Sierra Leone AYPAD organization is presently operating in 30 countries around the world.

AYPAD’s vision of continental unity for youth development and peace is rooted in the organization’s belief that violence achieves no meaningful goal.

The Baha'i Chair for World Peace at the Univeristy of Maryland's Institute for International Development and Conflict Management.

The purpose of this project is to provide basic human needs to poor and underprivileged children who would not otherwise receive them. Specifically: education, food, shelter, and love.

The school (Jeevan School) has grown to include levels of education for all the students that attend.  From nursery (3 years old) to level 7 (15 years old). Many of the children were attending regularly but due to the abuse and neglect suffered at home were not able to succeed. 

In 2007 a hostel for these children was formed.  If after a year of attending the school, and the children and their parents agree, they put them up in the “hostel”, where they are provided with full 24-hour care including all food, clothing’ medical costs as well as extracurricular activities ie sewing, art class, woodworking, and dance classes. "
