Dear Friends,
Our June News monthly newsletter follows April. How is it possible that we missed May?
As it turns out, while we did manage to get out two of our other news letters:
At this moment, I'm the primary writer for the Monthly newsletter and most of May was taken up by my residency at Royal Roads University while I was intensely studying for my MA in Human Security and Peacebuilding.
Suffice it to say, working to create a better world is more than just a job for many of us. It's our form of service to humanity, so we study about it, read about it, write papers on it, research it, work at it, and strive day by day to create it.
What we are encouraging each of you to do, is to reach out to your friends, family and work colleagues and anyone you meet to Join Us in our venture. Send this e-mail to them. As we join together as Partners in our various Community Development initiatives we can learn from each other while we are making a difference for our community and our world.
As a reader you are already involved in Partners projects. You may also be working with one of the many organizations serving our respective communities, and you already know the joy of service. For those who are just getting to know Partners and want to get more involved, we encourage your participation. Getting involved in things you aren't familiar with is sometimes a little daunting. After all, you don't don't always know what to do or how to do it. You don't always have the energy you would like to have. Let me just say this:
We Are Here to Accompany You.
Over the next few months, I will be telling you about some of the exciting new initiatives at Partners. We have a few that are longer term but we have a couple that are on the immediate horizon as well. To learn more, see our information on Community Programs and Serving Together.
Our Youth Initiative, Creating our World
Creating Our World will initially be a summer youth initiative during which we will employ a summer student who will document, in video, the youth in our communities, learning more about how they see the world, reaching out to them, encouraging their involvement, and accompanying them in creating Partner initiatives to help shape their future. Our youth employee will share more information about his accomplishments in out next newsletter. Part of our funding is from the Canada Student Jobs program and we thank them for their support. But we need some of you to act as co-sponsors of this project. If you'd like to help out, please click here to help us fund this project...
Our New Group System
Over the past month we have been working on a join effort with "Tse Tsa Watle", a group dedicated to uniting with and learning about our First Nations through learning events sponsored by Royal Roads University and headed up by Dr. Virginia McKendry, and Greg Sam. We have been working together to develop a more robust on-line Discussion Forum to support their efforts. Suffice it to say, the the benefits of the new group system will help all of our Partners Groups and Projects. All Partners Groups will now have full access to their own Discussion Forum, Event planning and other features. Many thanks to Virginia and Greg, the Tse Tsa Watle group and Royal Roads University for their support of the community. To learn more about the group functions see Working in Groups...
Donating to Partners - we've made this easier too...
One other addition we've made is for those who would like to donate for specific projects. When you click on the "Canada Helps" badge, you will go to our donor page on the Canada Helps web-site. In order to donate you will need to create a Canada Help's donor account or use Pay Pal. Because we are a registered Charity, you can get a tax receipt directly from Canada Helps. We will also send our own thank you when you donate more than $20.
On the Canada Helps site, you can create regular donations or you can do a one time donation and you can also tell us which project you want to fund with your donation.
That's probably enough for now. I look forward to communicating with you again soon.
Until next month, Garth Schmalenberg
