This project is designed to build the capacity of the people of Barton Hill, in the mountains of Jamaica, to become self-supporting and improve their standard of living. This is a grass roots project, with the residents of Barton Hill having asked for our assistance. A few dedicated individuals in Victoria, BC are connected to Barton Hill, and working diligently to accompany this community to "get on its feet".

The community is struggling badly; they live in a very isolated part of Jamaica, and the largest and basically, the only employer in the area, laid off 100 employees last year. The lay offs were due to mechanization

These residents have no private or public transportation, live 1.5 hours from the nearest city and few of the children are attending school, due to a lack of money.

A donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated!  A fundraiser is planned for Saturday, April 28th, 2012 in the evening in the Banquet Room of the Vacation Hotel & Convention Centre, 3020 Douglas Street, Victoria.
