Description

NONDO represents the goals and the aspirations of persons with disabilities (PWDs) of greater northern Kenya this also includes those in IDP camps of Dadaab along Kenya-Somalia boarder and Kakuma along Kenya-Sudan-Ethiopia boarder.

NONDO is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) formed by persons with disabilities from Northern Kenya to

  1. Improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities from the region through provision of assistive devices such as Wheelchairs, Braille machines, Hearing aids-among others

  2. Create awareness among persons with disabilities from the region and the society at large on the rights of persons with disabilities

  3. To improve the welfare of persons with disabilities through education and by supporting them to undertake income generating projects.

Culturally, in northern Kenya, persons with disabilities are viewed as a curse, unproductive and therefore a burden to the society. They grapple with challenges of stereotyping and exclusion from the mainstream society. This community is poor in every sense, unrepresented and without a voice. They suffer twice as much due to the challenges of the horrifying terrain, the marginalization, constant conflicts, harsh climatic conditions and the nomadic culture of inhabitants of the region.

We will always welcome an opportunity to discuss NONDO further with you.
